There’s an overwhelming number of wellness products touting de-stressing and mood-boosting benefits, but most of them require weeks of waiting for results. But when you’re dealing with the effects of stress, burnout, low mood, and insomnia, it’s crucial to find something that works—quickly. I had already dabbled in Moon Juice’s adaptogen powders, so it was an instant add-to-cart situation once I saw it had launched Magnesi-Om: a new magnesium supplement. Spoiler: it was one of the best wellness decisions I’ve made in years.
Surprisingly, improved sleep and mood weren’t the only perks of this berry-flavored powder. Read on for my honest experience (and why everyone on my holiday shopping list will receive it this year.)
Taste
As much as I love a laundry list of benefits, I won’t use it consistently if something doesn’t smell or taste good. Fortunately, Magnesi-Om doesn’t have that issue. It’s naturally sweetened with monk fruit, a small round fruit native to southern China, so it tastes like berries without tasting too artificial or overpowering, or worse, like a vitamin.
Preparation
I like Moon Juice’s adaptogen powders, but it can be a bit of a chore to prepare because they don’t taste too great on their own. The magnesium powder is much simpler—all you have to do is mix one teaspoon into water, and you’re done. (But if you want to get a little creative, Moon Juice has some Sleepy Girl Mocktail recipes, which are “chef’s kiss”.)
Experience
It tastes great and is easy to prepare, but most importantly, does it actually work? Yes, and in many ways. Magnesium is responsible for hundreds of bodily processes, so while I won’t list out every single way I’ve noticed a difference in my daily quality of life, I’ll take you through the highlights.
Regularity
As someone who works remotely and has the eating habits of a well-fed raccoon (it’s a problem), I’m no stranger to stomach issues and bouts of gastrointestinal distress. Thankfully, after a few days of drinking this supplement before bed, I immediately noticed a positive difference. No gas, discomfort, or bloating, either. (I’d continue purchasing this product alone for that reason.)
Mental Clarity
Magnesium supports good brain health, so keeping your levels up can mitigate stress and brain fog symptoms. As someone who holds a pretty packed schedule, I can use all the help I can get. And while it doesn’t work like a stimulant, I did notice that I feel more put together and calm about 30 minutes after drinking. Magnesi-Om also includes Nootropic L-Theanine to promote alpha waves—the same waves actively present in meditation, so you don’t feel jittery or overstimulated, just more chill.
Sleep Quality
Getting enough magnesium is also crucial to better sleep, another plus I’ve experienced with this berry-flavored supplement. My job requires massive amounts of screen time, coupled with my favorite bedtime habit of scrolling TikTok, which typically contributes to subpar sleep, but drinking this concoction before bed has helped. I also want to note that it’s not the heavy, drowsy sleep that melatonin tends to deliver—it just feels easier to drift off. I haven’t noticed any sluggishness in the morning, either.
The Bottom Line
Would I buy this again? Yup! I have, and I will! I’ll also be gifting it to quite a few people on my holiday gifting list. There are just too many benefits to list, and because just about everyone I know has at least one issue (gut issues, fatigue, subpar sleep), I know it’ll be an absolute home run in the gifting department.
